I had no idea what to expect, and I'm not sure that anyone else did either, but I think that everyone who was there was able to appreciate the show on some level.
I kind of feel bad for Matt, because the way that his career has gone, people are always going to anticipating something that they would just not find. It has been many years since Matt has had anything to do Weezer, yet everywhere that I saw this show promoted all that it said was "Matt Sharp (formerly of Weezer)". I don't get why they would include that in the promotion, he is nothing like the Weezer of yore, and has had nothing to do with band since 1997.
If you were to watch old videos of Weezer and then watch a Matt Sharp show, you would not believe that it was the same person. The 'new' Matt Sharp, is very introverted, and attempts to put on a very personal set. I don't feel that he succeeds as well as some of the other artists that I have seen, but it is a very relaxing experience. He encourages people to sit on stage, because as he described it, its very patient music, and standing for an entire set could become tiresome. At times I found the set to drag, but it was entertaining, the sort of thing that would help you sleep though. It was very personal and very patient.
I'm not sure that it was worth the $15, and I wouldn't advise anyone to go because they are Weezer fans, but if you are in the mood for something different, check it out.
